The ideal candidate:
- BS/MS in Computer Science or related field/degree, and/or equivalent work experience
- A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
- Extensive programming experience in Perl/mod_perl
- Several years of large scale systems design experience, with extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux.
- Proficient in SQL and schema design
- Proficient in Object Oriented design and development
- Good communication skills
- Able to work effectively alone and as part of a team
- 6+ years experience (including time working towards advanced degrees and/or experience).
Desired skills:
- HTML::Mason experience
- Javascript/Ajax frameworks
- Experience with open source software
- Experience in one or more of the following: C/C++/Objective-C, Java, Python (strong OO skills preferred).

The Role: Software Engineer:
As a software engineer at Rent.com, you will write server-side code for web-based applications. We are looking for well-rounded engineers to create robust high-volume production applications. You should also have a strong understanding of, and practical experience developing web apps in Perl. We are looking for someone who is interested in making a big impact as part of a small, dynamic team and is looking to have broad responsibilities.
