The ideal candidate:
We are looking for engineers with great software design skills, lots of software engineering experience (doesn't matter if it was at Apple or in your mom’s basement), excellent communication skills, and a driven personality. These people are usually called "rock stars" at their present jobs.
Job Description and responsibilities:
1) We are a young, small start-up! While we have a number of helpers and advisers, we have only 6 full-time employees. We’ve been working hard to keep costs low and finance our company with our own money and angel funds, without taking any VC money. This means we’ve retained a great deal of equity to share with highly-talented early employees (that’s you!). If you join us, we can guarantee that you will have a big impact and will be generously rewarded with equity.
2) We build amazing software! At our core, we are a team of great engineers from world-class companies. We have built a fast development environment, with code reviews, automatic unit tests, bug reports, the works. We take great pride in our code because it helps us innovate quickly. We build everything from Android software to C++ image recognition, from web UI to pedometer data analysis. Because we are small, you will both use and build many more technologies.
3) We are changing the world! We’re focusing on the largely unexplored area of “fitness and wellness technology” where there's lots of room to make a big impact. Smart engineers haven't paid enough attention to this area, but we want to change that and help people on a global scale.
4) We are multi-disciplinary! We see fitness technology as a complete universe of fitness advisors, designers, doctors, psychologists, and researchers. You will have to chance to interact with a much more diverse network of people than at any typical engineering company.
5) We make decisions together! We discuss everything from how much to pay advisors, what features to add, how to negotiate investments, or even if we should get a new couch. We all have an equal say in discussions, and you will learn how to make decisions (data-driven and beyond). When I joined, I greatly underestimated how much I would learn; every day something different comes up, and every time it’s a lesson for business and life.
6) We are building the kind of company we want to work for! We’ve worked for and admire great engineering companies, and are obsessed with creating a great work environment and rewarding atmosphere. No obstacle is too great, and you can help us to continue improving. We have an amazing chef (we love her!) and a fun office with frequent visitors.
7) We are making huge progress! Our most recent business accomplishments include releasing the most popular fitness application on the Android platform (CardioTrainer), securing angel capital from Korea and from a senior Google Product Manager, winning a technology grant from the Korean Ministry of Knowledge, and, of course, continuing to grow our awesome team.
