The ideal candidate:
Numerate is looking for intelligent and self-motivated engineers to join our team. We are currently seeking a talented (mid- to senior-level) Java developer with demonstrated experience building enterprise web applications. As part of the web application engineering team, you will be responsible for all phases of the design and development of an application to aid scientists in the drug discovery process. You will be expected to have a strong foundation in object-oriented programming, and should be comfortable implementing robust, efficient server-side code while developing intuitive client-side interfaces. Knowledge of biology and chemistry is not required, but a willingness to learn is.
Requirements:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science
- Four or more years industry programming experience (at least two years in Java)
- Expertise with at least one Java web application framework for developing a multi-tier application
- Expertise developing high-quality user interfaces
- Experience with SQL database management
- Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with GWT a plus

Numerate is a small biotechnology startup located in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are developing a proprietary technology platform to facilitate early-stage drug discovery. Our team is comprised of renowned scientists who collaborate with an accomplished team of in-house engineers. We apply our combined expertise in chemistry, statistical modeling, search optimization, and distributed computing to predict successful drug candidates. We have worked on a number of therapeutic areas, including diabetes, HIV, and Hepatitis C.
Candidates must be prepared to discuss their previous experience in detail and are expected to communicate clearly what they worked on, how it worked and the design and implementation trade-offs that were made. If available, candidates should include a portfolio of interface design work with their resume.
